BEERY GOOD: Invercargill Brewery brewer Steve Nally admires products that have won medals at the Australian International Beer Awards.

Invercargill Brewery beers have won big at the Australian International Beer Awards.

It is the first time the company has ventured into an international competition.

The award-winning beers were Smokin' Bishop (silver medal), Boysenbeery fruit beer and Pitch Black (bronze).

Each had won gold medals in New Zealand awards.

The Pitch Black stout was originally designed to accompany the Bluff oyster but had never made it to the festival due to sponsorship restrictions, brewer Steve Nally said.

"I couldn't sell beer so we went and sold cider instead.''
