BEAN AWESOME: Three Bean Cafe owner Donna Hamilton celebrates the Invercargill cafe being named the best in Southland in the Cafe Magazine Best Cafe Awards.

Invercargill's Three Bean Cafe has been named  the best in Southland in the Cafe Magazine Best Cafe Awards.

Owner Donna Hamilton said the popular Dee St eatery won the award for its range of food, coffee that always "came out trumps'', and friendly staff.

Donna and husband Gareth bought the cafe three years ago, and did not know they had been named Southland's best until they read about it in the magazine. They did not know they had even been judged for the competition.

Mrs Hamilton said she loved the regular customers who visited the cafe, the people who worked there and the non-stop days at work.

"We have awesome staff; you do become a big family,'' she said.

"The busier it is, the more we buzz. We love it.''

Niagara Falls Cafe in the Catlins was runner-up for the Southland section.

A well deserved win! Whenever I'm home in Southland my parents take me in for their traditional Saturday 3 Bean stopoff after chores have been done. They've always been incredibly friend, always remember their customers, and always excelled at what they do!

Congratulations!! Question: how much foam should a 'flat white' have?? My preference is 'none'.
