BIG DRAW: Manager Jamie Briggs sets up the Rice’s Powerstore expo at the Ascot Park Hotel, in Invercargill.

Organisers of Rice's Powerstore expo are expecting a big event this weekend as it celebrates its 30th birthday.

Powerstore manager Jamie Briggs said first time products such as Apple iPhones and popular products such as Sleepyhead beds would be a big draw.

However, televisions were always the biggest seller and he expected a lot of people to come hunting for a bargain TV.

"I think the door busters, where we have half price deals every day will bring in the shoppers," he said.

He said 30 years was a milestone that would be celebrated during the weekend.

Children could enjoy the party as their parents shopped, playing in the astroball and getting their faces painted, he said.

The huge Samsung truck, filled with hi-tech equipment would be at the event for the first time.

About 20 suppliers would exhibit.

The expo starts today in the Ascot Park Hotel at 10am and runs for three days.
