Council to sign for skifield

The final stage in a three year process to ensure Queenstown Lakes District Council ownership of Cardrona Valley's Snow Farm will take place this afternoon.

The council established the Pisa Alpine Charitable Trust in 2009 to raise money to buy the Snow Farm from the Lee family, of Cardrona, who started it in 1980.

The undisclosed purchase price was raised through the council's reserves contribution fund and donations from the Otago Community Trust, the Central Lakes Trust, the Lotteries Commission and private donors.

The Deed of Settlement will be transferred this afternoon at a ceremony at the Snow Farm.

The purchase means the Snow Farm will be owned by the district's ratepayers and leased by the trust which will run it as a winter and summer recreational reserve.
