Winton builder scores award
A Winton builder has been recognised for his work as part of a New Zealand and Australia-wide building franchise.
Sam Scott, from Smith & Sons Western Southland, has won the New Zealand runner-up most sales category in the Smith & Son's annual business awards.
The awards were open to the 66 Smith & Sons businesses that specialise in residential and light commercial renovations and extensions throughout New Zealand and Australia.
Mr Scott was thrilled his company received the award.
''It acknowledges how many jobs the company completed and we love to be busy,'' he said.
Originally from a Southland farm, Mr Scott was trained in the region and has been building for more than 12 years.
He recently renovated the former Sunday School building in Centre Bush for artist Jasmine Keir.
Ms Keir said Mr Scott and his team transformed the 1950s Sunday school into an artist's retreat.
Smith & Sons Western Southland have been contracted to renovate the former St Albans Anglican church, also in Centre Bush. The former church will have a three-bedroom and two-bathroom additions.
Mr Scott said no two jobs were the same and his experience ranged from farm sheds and effluent systems to new builds and full renovations.
