A director of PowerNet and Electricity Invercargill has been appointed chair of the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority.
Tom Campbell, a former managing director of Comalco and general manager of the Tiwai Point Aluminium Smelter, is an accredited member of the Institute of Directors.
He is director of Todd Corporation and Standards NZ and is chair of Crown research institute GNS Science.
Energy and Resources Minister Phil Heatley said Mr Campbell had a long-standing interest in improving energy efficiency from his roles at Rio Tinto, including as Managing Director (NZ and UK) of Comalco and general manager of the Tiwai smelter.
Mr Campbell has been appointed for three-year term from February 1, next year.
The role of the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority is to encourage, promote and support energy efficiency, energy conservation and the use of renewable energy resources in New Zealand.
