Southern Discoveries has bought a shareholding in Milford Sound Lodge.
The lodge has been run for nearly 14 years by directors Mike McConachie and Dave Kluken, who have welcomed the opportunity to work with Southern Discoveries.
Mr McConachie said the Southern Discoveries investment would enable an accelerated redevelopment of the lodge in the next 18 months, starting with the construction of eight new ensuite chalets for the coming summer season.
Southern Discoveries general manager John Robson said the collaboration was the continuation of a close working relationship with Milford Sound Lodge.
As well as the shareholding in Milford Sound Lodge, Southern Discoveries also owns the Blue Duck Cafe and Bar, runs four boats at Milford Sound offering a range of cruise options, and owns and operates Harrisons Cove Kayaking, four information centres in Te Anau and Queenstown, and Te Anau-based coach service Go Milford.
It runs the Queenstown Discovery, which provides day and charter cruises on Lake Wakatipu, and also owns 50 per cent of KJet.
