Tatler's in Q'town closes
A long-running restaurant in central Queenstown has closed its doors after a "tussle" with one of the resort's biggest commercial landlords, Tatler's manager says.
Tatler in The Mall closed this week and business owner Mark Jessop, who also owns Prime restaurant, will be holding an auction for the chattels on Thursday after the lease held by resort landlord Les Keeper was not renewed.
"I've been in there 12 years, I've paid $1 million out in the last four years, " Mr Jessop said.
"It came to a game of Russian roulette."
He claims the building needs work and said it was unfortunate that he and the landlord were unable to reach an agreement.
The landlord wanted more rent, he said.
Mr Keeper is a major player in central business district real estate ownership after snapping up highly sought premises in 2011 with shares in the Steamer Wharf complex, The Mountaineer building, The Junction at Gorge Rd, Outside Sports building and a Camp St property.
He could not be reached for comment and no-one from commercial property management firm Westwood Group Holdings responded to the Mirror's inquiries.
