A $100,000-plus redevelopment at the garden bar of Winton's Top Pub is the first major refurbishment for a hotel in Winton in more than 20 years.
Owners Tonk Sinclair and Alison Perks see the investment as a positive step forward.
"It's good for us and it's good for the town. People like to see you putting something back into the business," Tonk said.
He had been heavily involved in the design and build of the bar which included imported materials, fittings and furniture. "We wanted it to be comfortable and welcoming and family friendly. It really feels like a place people can come and relax now," Alison said.
The couple's investment was paying off.
"We get good support from the locals, but we're also seeing new clients, and because Winton's so central we draw from a big area," Tonk said.
Business had picked up since the refurbished garden bar had opened last month.
"We've also had quite a lot of pre-bookings for birthdays, anniversaries and Christmas functions."
Staff numbers had grown, with an extra chef being employed along with two kitchen staff to keep the meals from the new menu coming and to cater for the weekend breakfast service on offer soon.
The kitchen was next on the list for updating, with new equipment being purchased. Then, after six years in business at the hotel, the couple thought they might just concentrate on running it day to day.
"The 10-year plan's getting pretty close," he said.
