The 12 days of Christmas...BRIDGET RAILTON
The 12 days of Christmas gift list would look a lot different if written in 2013, results from Trade Me show.
The online auction site's top 12 searched items in Southland in the lead up to Christmas include iPhones, Adidas gear, Karen Walker Clothing and lego. Not a partridge or a pear tree in sight.
Christmas trees, BBQs, bikes, kittens, tents, TV's, outdoor furniture and trampolines rounded out the top 12.
Trade Me spokesman Paul Ford said nationally, the most searched items had an outdoor flavour.
''Popular high energy gift options include mountain bikes and trampolines, and Adidas clothing has enjoyed a resurgence in popularity to land at number two,'' Mr Ford said.
Apple's range of technology products remained in the top spot for the third consecutive year.
''In 2013 it is all about about iPhones and iPads, with the iPod Touch slipping down the most coveted list this year,'' Mr Ford said.
The lead up to Christmas traditionally sees a boom in Trade Me's site activity.
According to Nielsen Online, more than 700,000 domestic unique browsers visit the site each day in December.
Mr Ford said ''couch commerce'' had exploded this year, with Kiwi online shoppers increasingly reliant on tablets and mobile devices.
''Purchasing expectations are now a case of anything, anytime, anywhere.''
Findings from Home Direct's annual Christmas survey echoed Mr Ford's thoughts.
According to the survey, more than three quarters of Kiwis are browsing, comparing and purchasing products online.
