Parents need help to work

I believe it is good to be able to stay home with your kids, especially for the first year of their lives, but I also think the Government needs to look at how to make things easier for people when they return to work.
I have two children and was fortunate enough to stay home for 12 months with my first, and then I had 18 months off full time work with my second.
When she was 8 months old I took up some evening work, which only led to me being tired during the day when I was with the kids.
I think if you're going to have kids you should try to make sure you are financially able to have some time off.
I enjoy working and being a mum, but it is not all that easy to get work where you can be flexible with hours or work maybe four days a week. Plus, not all workplaces are flexible with you working school hours or your start/finishing times.
I don't believe paid parental leave should be extended. However, I strongly believe that the Government should be putting money into day care centres to make those costs less, especially for middle income earners, who see half their wages going to day care centres week after week if they don't have family that are able to help with their children.
Most middle income earners just miss out on any financial assistance the Government gives out and when you return to full time work, you still don't seem to be able to get ahead with through-the-roof day care fees or before/after school care plus school fees.
