One of the oldest vineyards in Central Otago, Black Ridge near Alexandra, has been sold after being on the market for years.
The 21ha vineyard was started by wine industry pioneers Sue Edwards and Verdun Burgess and first planted in 1981.
Vines on schist slopes are some of the southernmost plantings in the world.
No details were available on the new owners.
The industry was well aware the well-appointed vineyard was on the market, since at least 2011.
They were one of the first half dozen or so pioneers to test Central Otago as a wine-growing region, a move considered foolhardy at the time.
Three decades on, Central Otago wine is established and world-renowned.
