A movie made largely in Invercargill and Otautau has been selected for the Berlin International Film Festival from February 7 to 17.
Daniel Borgman's The Weight of Elephants was inspired by the award-winning novel Of A Boy by Australian novelist Sonya Hartnett.
Filmed in March, the movie features children from schools around Southland and an Otautau home was used as part of the set.
The Weight of Elephants is a co-venture between the New Zealand Film Commission and the Danish Film Institute and Film i Vast with support from the Invercargill City Council and Invercargill Licensing Trust, the Southern Institute of Technology and the MEDIA Programme of the European Union.
The film will premiere in the Forum and Generation sections of the festival.
This is the second year Southland scenery has featured at the festival - Two Little Boys premiered last year.
