Auction, quiz night to raise funds
East Gore Art Centre project moves onBRIDGET RAILTON
The East Gore Art Centre will be another step closer to completion with the help of a fundraising quiz night.
The Eastern Southland Gallery is launching into its next fundraiser, an art auction and quiz night, to help complete stage 3 of the East Gore Art Centre.
Eastern Southland Gallery programmes officer Marcella Geddes said it would combine a quiz night with an auction of art, wine and books.
''It's going to be a fun night for everyone,'' Ms Geddes said.
Tickets were selling well but there is still time for people to register their interest, she said.
With 12 works by some of the big names in contemporary New Zealand art up for auction, art lovers and collectors have a chance to grab something really special for their wall, and because there were no reserves, they could pick them up for a bargain price, she said.
Most of the works up for auction are lithographs and have either been donated by the artists themselves or by Muka Studio in Auckland.
All proceeds from the evening will go towards completing stage 3 of the East Gore Art Centre project. This an exciting development for Southland and one which we hope will become an art centre of regional and national significance, she said.
''With only painting, flooring, lighting and internal fixtures and fittings to be done, this is a last push to complete sEtage 3.''
The quiz will be held on Friday, September 6, at 7.30pm at the Heartland Hotel Croydon, Gore. Tickets are available from the Eastern Southland Gallery at $20 per person, which includes a donation to the project and some refreshments.
