Clint Eastwood's wife has spoken out to defend the actor in the wake of their separation.
The 83-year-old movie star and 48-year-old journalist Dina Eastwood confirmed their separation last month after 17 years of marriage.
Dina Eastwood broke her silence on Twitter to share her frustration with rumours about the status of their union, urging members of the media to be kinder to her spouse despite their differences.
"I don't like reading negative things about Clint. He is a wonderful, good natured, brilliant person. No matter what, I attest to that," she wrote.
The message came shortly after Clint Eastwood was seen dropping off an unidentified blonde woman at Los Angeles International Airport, reigniting rumours a third party was involved in the split.
E! News reports the actor's manager, Leonard Hirshan, "said he didn't know anything about the situation".
Us Weekly was first to report news of Clint and Dina Eastwood's separation last week.
According to the tabloid, the estranged couple quietly split in June 2012 but have "remained close".
"Clint fell out of love with Dina a long time ago," a source said.
Reports surfaced the couple was on the rocks back in April after Clint Eastwood was spotted without his wedding ring while attending the Coachella Music Festival in California.
Dina Eastwood was apparently suffering from anxiety and depression and was being treated at an exclusive facility in Arizona at the time.
They have yet to comment on those claims.
The couple share a 17-year-old daughter, Morgan.
He also has seven other children from previous relationships.
