A spell-bound Invercargill audience enjoyed a musical ensemble of four string players last night.

Playing to audiences across the country on their first New Zealand tour, Hungarian musicians Kelemen Quartet entertained more than 90 people at the Civic Theatre.

Chamber Music New Zealand southland concerts manager Jennifer Sinclair described last night's audience as being ''spell-bound'' and said nobody moved during the performances.

''You can feel the passion ... they (Kelemen quartet) move with the music.''

The Kelemen Quartet, performing as part of the Chamber Music New Zealand 2014 Kaleidoscopes season, had developed a worldwide following, she said.

It was unique for Invercargill to get as many international artists as it did through Chamber Music and she encouraged people to come along and experience it.

The quartet, who have just finished an Australian tour, opened on Sunday night in Dunedin on its 10-show tour and will next play in Nelson.
