More going on than meets the eye
A Southland artist has harnessed the patterns of southern nature for her first solo exhibition.
Ties that Bind, an exhibition showcasing the work of artist Lyn Henry, opens this weekend in Riverton.
It will be Henry's first solo exhibition, and represents a huge amount of work by the award-winning artist, who completed the more than 50 pieces on display in about four months.
"I had some sadness in the family, culminating in my dad's death," she said.
"This exhibition has given me a focus."
Most of her works fixate on objects with interesting textures, such as railway sleepers and rock pools, from the Riverton and Cosy Nook area.
However, many pieces highlight more than just initial appearances, Henry said.
"A lot of them have real secrets in them that you just find when you really, really look."
Ties that Bind opens to the public with a special meet-the-artist day tomorrow, and continues until April 13 at the Riverton Community Arts Centre.
