This is a must for any film fan. Any list like this is, of course, bound to be subjective, and you could argue the inclusion of the likes of the Lord of the Rings trilogy and The Piano, because they were funded elsewhere, but that aside, McDouall has compiled a fascinating list of films, offering pictures and insights of each movie.
From the likes of Goodbye Pork Pie, to Heavenly Creatures; Oscar-nominated shorts like Two Cars, One Night, and the Peter Jackson-directed pseudo-documentary Forgotten Silver, 100 Essential New Zealand Films has a little something for everyone.
Whether you're a true Kiwi film fanatic, or just starting out with Kiwi films and you're not sure where to go, this is a pretty good starting place. It's well-formatted, colourful, and easy to read.
It'd make a great gift for the film buff in your family.
