The latest recipe collection from Robyn Martin is exactly what it claims to be. One hundred and fifty-five quick and easy baking recipes: no fuss, no exotic ingredients and no extraneous copy.

It is recipe book pure and simple in the old tradition. Easy to follow and beautifully illustrated, there is something here for every cook.

The good old Kiwi favourites are included, but I note there are some very stylish additions, such as Amaretti biscuits and delicious-looking wafery concoctions that would be great to have on hand over the summer months to serve with ice-cream and cold desserts.

The scone, muffin and gem section gets the big tick for practicality and economy, and the inclusion of healthy and tasty lunchbox squares and slices is a winner.

All the ingredients are readily available and, more to the point, recognisable. No gallons of cream and white wine and vanilla pods here.

Give it to your kids — they will love it.
