Anyone considering doing a nature tour of Godzone should take this book with them.
It would also be an effective and enjoyable tool for an armchair tour. Both the author and the photographer are masters at their craft with many titles of note behind them.
Forty-seven flexible itineraries throughout New Zealand are detailed; each one describing the natural beauty of several sites as well as listing walks and detours of note. Many text boxes throughout the book provide pictures and information about birds, flora and fauna of interest in the various regions. I was surprised that Clifden Caves were not included in the Southern Fiordland, Tuatapere to Te Anau route. Otherwise I found the book comprehensive with good instructions, detailed maps and stunning photographs.
This book would make a superb gift and be a great addition to the coffee table when not in the car.
