Thousands of versions of the Harlem Shake are plastered all over the internet.

But there's one group of people who are not happy with the viral dancing craze: The residents of Harlem.

Filmmaker Chris McGuire interviewed residents of the New York neighbourhood and got some hilarious, and some serious reactions.

While some describe the antics as "dry-humping air" or "zombies going crazy", others suggest that those YouTube dancers "look like they've smoked some dust" or plainly "a bunch of idiots."

Most of those asked agree that there was a a real history to the dances that came out of the historically black neighbourhood and they felt like this videos were disrespecting Harlem and making a joke of them.

"They disrespecting the Harlem swag," a resident laments. Because "It's not a dance, it's a lifestyle"

One local warns, "if you do that in Harlem, y'all would get hurt. I'm sorry."
