New Moon, the second instalment of Stephenie Meyer's Twilight Saga, sends the accident-prone, vampire-romanced mortal, Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart), further into the fantasy world of mythical monsters and fairytales.
After a close call with a bloodthirsty vampire in Twilight, Bella's dazzling vampire boyfriend, Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson), and his family, abandon the town of Forks, in an attempt to protect Bella from the dangers of the ancient vampire world.
Bella struggles to hold on to Edward's memory and discovers a new wild and reckless side of herself that brings her images of Edward. She falls into a state of depression and it takes a budding relationship with childhood friend Jacob Black (Taylor Lautner) to pick her back up again.
But Jacob has a supernatural secret of his own and with wolf transformations and romantic feelings developing between the pair the friendship isn't as easy as it first seemed.
*Fangirl scream!!* Ok I'll admit it. I'm completely biased. I'm a total Twihard to the core.
I've been watching the teaser trailers with tears of excitement in my eyes for weeks.
The Twilight phenomenon has taken over the world – well mine at least – and Invercargill is no exception.
The queue for New Zealand's midnight premiere at Reading Cinema was already stretching out the door by 11.20pm on Wednesday, and I was right near the front, ready for the next fix of my own personal brand of heroin.
And it was amazing.
With a bigger budget and new director, Chris Weitz, everything about New Moon completely blitzed its predecessor.
An interesting new take on Bella's narration brings her character out a lot better and may have even eliminated my initial dislike of her, which had nothing to do with jealousy, I swear.
All the fight scenes are pretty much totally awesome, with a slight Matrix-like twist.
The wolves graphics could have definitely been better though.
As a soppy girl, I was sucked in by the romance and I'd say there will be many Team Jacob converts after all this topless action.
One of the best things about the movie, and completely unexpected, was the humour. It was almost as though the characters were taking the mickey out of the story a wee bit and it definitely put a light on what was such a depressing story.
Beware this one doesn't stick quite as closely to the book as the first movie did, but it still worked really well.
I loved it and I think even those who aren't obssessed will love it too.
