Movie & Music reviews
Linn Lorkin never fails to impress – with her unique sense of style and French-cafe voice she has impressed again with her "second outing" CD, In the land of Music, which is a digital remastering of the analog vinyl album released in 1986 in which Lorkin was accompanied by the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra with a rhythm section comprising New Zealand celebrities Carl Doy, Frank Gibson jnr, Martin Winch and Billy Kristian and featuring Brian Smith and Rodger Fox.
The remarkable Kiwiana feel of the album is deeply and immediately felt and there is a story to be told in every song – time spent with the family, Family at the Beach. And then there's Walking in a Green World, showing off the Auckland-based singer/songwriter's velvety rich voice and the sound of an angel resonates from Me and the Magician.
A nice variation of tunes and a smooth folk/classical sound which works well with the orchestral backing.
Lorkin's sound will appeal to fans of both jazz, folk, classical and those who have a love of 100 per cent Kiwi music making it an ideal Christmas present.
Mazel tov Linn on another collectable.
