Southland monitor farms will continue as planned despite farmers voting against the wool levy proposal that was supposed to fund the programmes.
Meat and Wool New Zealand southern South Island director Leon Black said sheep and beef farmers in Northern Southland and Western/Central Southland would join forces to develop a new programme with a different focus and format.
The Eastern Southland Monitor Farm would continue with a traditional-style programme with David and Julie Clarke, of Glenham, and the new monitor farmers, Mr Black said.
The first open day for the Eastern Southland farm would be held on Tuesday next week. "The Northern and Western/Central Southland monitor farm community groups are pooling resources and working together to explore how farmers need to look at their farming systems to provide the market with the desired end product," he said.
