Invercargill shearer Nathan Stratford has placed second in the New Zealand Shearing Championships open final in Te Kuiti.
Stratford finished his stand in 17min 18.2sec, and with 66.46 points, behind winner Rowland Smith, of Hastings, who had a time of 16min 11.74sec, and 63.987 points.
David Buick, of Pongaroa, was third, 16min 9.48sec, with 66.62 points. Stratford was also second in the New Zealand Shears Circuit final, finishing in 20min 55.21sec, with 90.561 points.
Mataura shearer Brett Roberts was second in the senior final, finishing in 12min 30.33sec, and with 54.6 points.
Mataura also had success in the junior final, with Kahn Culshaw third in 8min 27.23sec, and 39.362 points.
