Case Steiger, big tractor
MR BIG: Ron Thomson of Winton checks out the latest 600 horsepower rubber quad-tracked Case Steiger in Dee St, Invercargill.

When it comes to tractors, they don't come any bigger than this.

The quad-tracked 600 horsepowered Case Steiger is now on display in Invercargill after being driven from Gore by a salesman for Advance Agricentre.

Tomorrow it will travel to Canterbury.

Parts manager Brendan Newland said the man who drove it down from Gore had a "few tight spots" on his journey.

The tractor has a 12.9-litre engine and fetches just under $600,000. It is designed for towing large farm items.

"The bigger the tractor, the bigger the stuff you can tow. It's probably a bit big for any Southland farm," Mr Newland said.

He said the most common tractor sold at Advance Agricentre was 115hp. The Case Steiger had generated a lot of interest.

"You can see people coming and going all the time, kids getting photos on it," Mr Newland said.

Administrator Raewyn Ashby said it was not your average tractor.

"It's an absolute monster."
