Best & worst: Cannes weekend
DAY THREE - THE GOOD: While it does border dangerously on negligee territory, this custom-made Gabriela Cadena dress works on treat on Eva Longoria. The delightful pale peach shade is gorgeous on her, and the body con style makes it more evening approps. We love the wispy lace around the decolletage and lower back, and those thin straps are perfect on Eva's petite frame.
DAY THREE, ONE OF THE BEST: Looking every inch the quintessential Hollywood golden age couple, Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds were a force to be reckoned with in monochrome Gucci. We're struggling to find words to express just how stunning that dress is - the full skirt, the elegant white trim on the neckline, the perfect tailoring - it's all utterly exquisite. Blake accessorised with a small amount of bling - 180 carats of diamonds to be exact! - as well as matching red lips and nails. Props have to go to Mr Reynolds who manages to avoid being completely outclassed - he's working that white tie, silk lapel combo with absolute ease.
DAY THREE, THE PRETTY: If anyone had a hard time on the red carpet this weekend it was America Ferrera. The victim of a bizarre red carpet incident where a man attempted to crawl beneath her dress, the star who called the whole experience 'a crazy weird dream', somehow managed to keep a smile on her face. Creepy debacle aside, we love America in this lemon-hued Georges Hobeika gown. It's princessy, but tempered down thanks to the beautiful scallop-edged bodice and her statement orange-red lippy.
DAY THREE, THE MIXED: While we rarely dislike a gown that's structured up top and flowy down below on Cate Blanchett, the strange flaps of fabric and nude illusion mesh on the back of this look is throwing us off. If anyone can pull off slightly strange embellishments it's Cate, but it's as though the Givenchy couturiers just ran out of patience half way through crafting the bodice and thought well hey - why not just chuck some see-through fabric on, tuck the leftover bits under a belt and call it a day.
DAY THREE, ONE OF THE BEST: Naomi Watts has been a bit wishy-washy on the red carpet of late - but hot damn, the girl is back in town. Stepping out in a dusty blue, chiffon draped Grecian gown by Marchesa, the blonde actress looked downright gorgeous. Oh, and can we talk about that fierce diamond-encrusted Bulgari serpent necklace hanging down from her delicate updo? We're putting it out there - best accessory nominee. Simply beautiful.
DAY THREE, THE GOOD: She's a massive French actress, she's Princess of Venice and Piedmont, and she looks fab in Elie Saab - is there anything this woman can't do? We're loving the moody pansy print on Clotilde Courau's simple yet chic strapless gown, and paired with a gold Bulgari choker and cocktail ring the whole look is flawless.
DAY FIVE - ONE OF THE BEST: Hilary Swanky-Swank-Mc-Swankston, look at you all beyond beautiful and flawless in Atelier Versace. The 39-year-old has shoulders that were born for a one shoulder gown, we love the draped material at the back and can we all have a moment for those Chopard earrings?! WE WANT. WE WANT. WE WANT. Okay, temper tantrum over, we're just going to stare at Hils in awe for a bit longer now ...
DAY THREE, THE BAD: Against the glamorous ballgowns and classy suits, German actress Heike Makatsch is a feathery mess in this strange white creation. We're all for feathers, and could see how the look could be redeemed if the sleeves were to magically disappear, but right now it's just horribly unflattering.
DAY FIVE - THE GOOD: Adriana Lima makes this undies-of-an-Alexandre-Vauthier-dress look amazing (well, it is her job, right?) and we think the key here is her simple slicked back hair and the choice to go for barely-there eye makeup (letting the red lip do all the poppin' needed).
DAY THREE, THE BAD: Ay-yi-yi, Spanish actress Rossy de Palma attempts to work the sexy flamenco dancer angle but fails rather dismally. And that posing? Eek - the woman needs a consult with Tyra asap.
DAY FIVE - ONE OF THE BEST: Freida Pinto wins best use of colour at Cannes in this exquisite Oscar de la Renta dress - she does the almost-impossible in that she's wearing this behemoth of a dress, it's not wearing her. We are now going to take a break to do a spot of online shopping, keyword 'coral'.
DAY FIVE - THE GREAT: All the pictures of Miranda Otto had her off to the side, Hilary Swank in the centre. Harsh! We think the Aussie actress looks like a star in this equally-exquisite white and blush gown. Her hair is also a major highlight for us. PS: She's 46! We would drink mouse blood on the daily if it meant we could have skin like this at 46 ... slip, slop and slap people!
DAY FIVE - THE MEH: We feel very little emotion towards Monica Bellucci's D&G look, it's a bit heavy for summer in France, a bit lace-on-lace, and just a bit drab. Her face is, of course, distractingly stunning.
DAY FIVE - THE BAD: Why-is-Paris-Hilton-there.com? And why is she dressed like an ornate cake?
DAY THREE, THE GOOD: We love how more and more celebs have chosen to go down the old Hollywood glamour route in Cannes - it really is the perfect place to do it, and English presenter and model Louise Roe is a great example of just how classy someone can look when they plump for subtle sex appeal, rather than thigh high slits and too much cleavage. We love the off-the-shoulder neckline in combination with the unique marble effect print, and although we would've preferred a daintier shoe, Louise is wonderfully elegant in this look.
DAY FIVE - THE GOOD: We're fairly certain Robert Pattinson is just getting hotter and hotter the more time he spends free from the shackles of the Twilight franchise. To the left we have him looking all 'this-old-thing'? hot.com in a casual Marni blazer and a black polo shirt and to the right he's rocking a tux with a can't-teach-that-magic casual sensibility.
DAY FIVE - THE WE CAN'T FAULT HIM: Sly Stallone wielded a #bringbackourgirls sign down the entire red carpet, which is cool ... he also chose to wear a lilac suit, which we officially hate, but we officially love on him. PS: Beard and pant proportions are making Mel Gibson look like a dwarf from The Hobbit just done up for a big dwarfy party. PPS: We are very excited for the next Expendables installment. PPPS: DOLPH! (The Swedish behemoth's bow tie is impeccable we might add).
DAY FIVE - GO BIG OR GO HOME: Beautiful Sonam Kapoor is our favourite Bollywood style star and this Elie Saab couture gown is certainly a statement and she almost pulls it off. Almost. We love a bit of poof ... but when it looks like the entire cast of The Expendables could fit under your skirt you may want to ditch a hoop or two.
DAY FIVE - THE GOOD: Suki Waterhouse - aka Bradley Cooper's lady love (isn't the sexual tension between them just palpable? Not.com) - manages to make one of the most perilous skirt shapes - the tiered-waterfall - work. Props.
DAY THREE, THE DISAPPOINTING: We've seen Rita Ora pull off many a dramatic gown, but this black lurex (shudder) number is just plain dull. The excess fabric around the bosom area, the cheap looking pulley-strap detail and the front slit - it's all just a bit joe average. Full credit to her hair and makeup artist though - that's one killer messy bob.
DAY FOUR - THE GOOD: While we're not completely sold on the billowy arm fabric, Eva Green looked mesmerising in this blood red Elie Saab gown. The embellished bodice is rather beautiful, and her sleek hair, statement lips and understated accessories are faultless.
DAY FOUR - ONE OF THE BEST: Jessica Chastain looked absolutely radiant in this stunning one shoulder Atelier Versace gown - in fact, she's never looked better. The bold hue was the perfect choice - it's a dream against her peaches and cream complexion and there's surely no better way to stand out on a busy red carpet than to opt for a vibrant jewel tone like this one. The structural neckline wouldn't work on everyone, but in combination with the surprisingly flattering hip ruching, it works a treat. Minimal accessories and a red lip are the perfect finishing touches.
DAY FOUR - THE GOOD: Only a supermodel could pull of such a daring gown, and former Victoria's Secret Angel Isabeli Fontana sure has the bod to work this bright yellow Tufi Duek gown. Slashed all over the show, the look teeters on tacky, but the impressive tailoring and Isabeli's classy red lip give it a firm tug in the classy direction.
DAY FOUR - THE GREAT: Who would've thought Barbie pink could look this good? Not us, that's for sure - however, Salma Hayek looks resplendent in this strapless Saint Laurent dress. The subtle pleating gives it a pretty touch and although we're not huge fans of the droopy waist tie, everything else about the look is divine.
DAY FOUR - THE BRIDAL: Yes, Eva Longoria looks both sexy and glamorous in this white Gabriela Cadena gown, but is anyone else getting strong bridal vibes or is that just us? The strapless number features multi-size pearl and crystal detailing which accentuate Eva's curves, but in combination with the dramatic train she really does look more suited to flouncing down the aisle than striking a pose at an evening event.
DAY FOUR - THE GOOD: French actress Lea Seydoux cut a dramatic figure in this vampy Prada gown. The striking emerald green hue suits her down to the ground and the cut of the dress is very old Hollywood and thus very event appropriate. How she managed to negotiate the carpet with that extensive train is beyond us - but my oh my did she look good doing it. Love the hair and makeup - tres, tres chic.
DAY FOUR - ONE OF THE BEST: Does this girl ever look anything less than breathtaking? If the last few days have proved anything, it's that Freida Pinto is no longer an upcoming red carpet fashion star - she is well and truly there. The Indian actress looks an absolute dream in this feathery Michael Kors creation - so much so that we just can't stop staring. Divine colour, classic silhouette and a touch of fun - all the ingredients for an amazing statement gown. Full marks.
DAY FOUR - THE MEH: Jennifer Lawrence's hair, makeup and accessories are fresh and slightly quirky - exactly what you expect from the star. The dress on the other hand, well, we're just not sold. Designed by Dior, it consists of a sheer black tank dress layered over a royal blue crepe mini - and while the neckline is undeniably flattering, the mesh overlay skirt leaves a lot to be desired. There are so many silhouettes we'd love to see Jen experiment with, but this is not one of them.
The 67th annual Cannes Film Festival is in full swing. Here are the best and worst fashion looks from days three, four and five of film meets fashion craziness on the French Riviera featuring Blake Lively, Hilary Swank, Naomi Watts and Eva Longoria.
