He can rap, design clothes and has taken Kim Kardashian from the worst to the best dressed lists, but it turns out Kanye West can't do simple things like remember to book a photographer for his own wedding.
Annie Leibovitz - who is renowned for her celebrity portraiture - and West have released a joint statement following West's claims at the Cannes Lions Creativity conference on Tuesday that Leibovitz was ''afraid of celebrity'' and as such refused to accept a job to photograph his and Kardashian's lavish wedding in Italy back in May.
''Although Kanye expressed frustration that he was not able to collaborate with Annie Leibovitz at his recent wedding, he is not assigning blame, and is not accusing Annie in any way,'' a statement from West's record label Def Jam read.
The groom-to-be and photographer, according to the statement, were engaged in lengthy negotiations (that obviously went nowhere) during the weeks leading up to the wedding.
''Annie would have been happy to do the portrait but she was never confirmed,'' a Leibovitz spokesperson told Page Six, who also pointed out that she is ''not known for shooting weddings''.
Due to Leibovitz's absence, or West's lack of organisational skills, his bride was left feeling tired during the couple's honeymoon in Ireland and Mexico because the pair worked for four days re-enacting their first kiss as man and wife in front of a wall of white flowers. The photo was eventually posted on Instagram and is the most-liked image on app after racking up more than 2.3 million double taps and 52,000 comments.
''Let me tell you something about that kiss photo that my girl put up ... this was pissing my girl off during the honeymoon, she was exhausted because we worked on that photo so much,'' West said.
''Can you imagine telling someone who wants to just Instagram a photo, who's the number one person on Instagram, 'We need to work on the colour of the flower wall', or the idea that it's a Givenchy dress, and it's not about the name Givenchy, it's about the talent that is Riccardo Tisci [the French label's creative director] - and how important Kim is to the internet,'' he added.
He also pointed out the ''mission'' for the couple's wedding snap was not to capture the happiest day of their lives but to culturally enrich those of us with high-speed broadband.
''And the fact the number one most-liked photo [on Instagram] has a kind of aesthetic was a win for what the mission is, which is raising the palette,'' he said during his session in Cannes, where he was booked to talk about music and celebrity endorsement deals.
While he is both lauded and loathed as a perfectionist, at least he practices what he preaches. According to an insider at the festival, West demanded the labels be ripped off the water bottles that were on the table in front of him on stage.
''Kanye said he wasn't going to be photographed promoting a brand if he's not being paid for it. Organisers had to scramble to rip off the labels before his session started,'' Page Six reported.
