Best & worst dressed: Comic Con
THE GREAT: Never one to shy away from a fashion risk, Jessica Alba flashed some serious skin in a Tanya Taylor bandeau crop top and Zimmermann printed midi skirt. While I would've preferred a simpler shoe (mirrors and tassels seem a bit much alongside that hemline), her side swept hair and smoky eyes are second to none.
THE GREAT: There's just something about Ashley Madekwe - actress, blogger and one of Team Life & Style's main fashion crushes (we've been known to spend many an hour stalking her Instagram). The 32-year-old star knocked it out of the park in this Christian Dior ensemble. It's functional, flattering and best of all - the futuristic vibe of the pencil skirt works perfectly for the occasion. Love it.
THE OVERCOOKED: Embodying the dreams of many a pre-pubescent sci-fi fan, Megan Fox shrugged off subtlety and went all out in this leather-look David Koma two piece. Granted, she's giving the people what they want, but paired with sky-high heels, bouncy curls and red lipstick the look comes off a tad contrived. What do you think? Sexy, or is she trying too hard?
THE DISAPPOINTING: It's one thing to have a little fun with fashion when you step onto the Comic Con carpet, it's quite another to completely abandon your regal sense of style in what can only be described as a tacky diner waitress uniform. It's a rare misstep for Cate Blanchett, so let's do our best to erase this dowdy Fausto Puglisi number from our collective memories, but let it just be said - there is never an explanation for sheeny underarm panels.
THE AGE-APPROPES': Cute as a button Elle Fanning certainly isn't my best dressed of the occasion, but if anyone can pull off a coral lace applique dress with matching shoes and bright nails it's this 16-year-old. It's just so damn refreshing to see somebody actually having a good time on the red carpet rather than preening and pouting for the cameras. All that said, I just can't get on board with that yellow eyeliner - your thoughts?
THE WILDCARD: Seems like Megan Fox isn't the only star to have selected her Comic Con outfit purely based on crowd appeal... Salma Hayek showed off her curves in this figure-hugging Alexander McQueen dress and managed to up the dominatrix-factor tenfold by slipping on a pair of vertiginous platforms. A bit kitschy, but hey - who can blame her for flaunting her assets when she looks that good at 47?!
THE WORST: I have no problem with young actresses wanting to take risks and stand out on the red carpet, but what really worries me is that there was someone who actually reassured 17-year-old Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams that this fringed garbage-bag-meets-newspaper situation was a good idea, and allowed her to leave the room strapped into it.
THE MIXED: Vampire Diaries star Nina Dobrev made many an appearance over the weekend with varying levels of success. On the left we have my pick of the bunch - a beautiful Naeem Khan top and shorts combo. The print is a breath of fresh air and works perfectly against her skin tone, while the bright pumps are a touch of magic. In the centre, the 25-year-old worked a sassy schoolgirl look in a bright J. Mendel fit and flare skirt paired with a sheer shirt and black necktie. To the right, and my least favourite, is this bunchy Michael Kors minidress. From the messy ponytail to those bizarre tufts of fabric sticking up all over the place, the usually gorgeous young star looks plain frumpy.
THE ALMOST: When I first saw this look, I just couldn't put my finger on what it was about it that wasn't quite right... then I spotted the shoulder detail and it all came crashing down. Why oh why would she choose to wear a dress that makes her look like a linebacker?
