Awards a snip for city hairdressers
Hairdressers at two Invercargill salons, owned by the same person, cleaned up all but two awards at the New Zealand Association of Registered Hairdressers regional competition in Invercargill at the weekend.
Hairstylists from Karma Hair and Fred and Gingers Hair & Beauty Salon won all categories bar two, which were won by Gore woman Mikaela Edwards, of Runway Hair Salon.
Adding to the success were the efforts of five other stylists from Karma Hair and Fred and Gingers, who received placings in a variety of sections.
Helena Yaxley, of Karma Hair, won the Southland Hairdresser of the Year award, after taking out the urban night hair senior award, Southland top styling award and overall senior champion.
"It shows our hard work. It's incredible that we can all do this."
The team from both salons had worked very hard for weeks, with many sleepless nights practising styles, she said.
Jo-Ann Hall, of Fred and Gingers Hair & Beauty Salon, won the other top award - the overall newcomer champion, as well as the directional womens/mens fashion cut newcomer winner and top cutting award - newcomer.
Fred and Gingers Hair & Beauty Salon has been open for about a month after replacing Total Image Hair, Skin & Body.
One of the two top awards has been held by Karma Hair for the past three years.
