Hairdresser makes cut for global contest
Talented young hairdresser to compete in LALAUREN HAYES
Invercargill hairdresser Jessie Bragg has snipped and styled her way to a spot in a worldwide hairdressing competition in Los Angeles.
The 21-year-old, a second-year apprentice at Raw Blonde Dzine, was named the New Zealand gold winner in the new talent section of the Goldwell Color Zoom competition, held in Sydney.
The win secured her and her hair model, Joelene Jobert, a spot at the worldwide Goldwell Color Zoom finals in October, when she will compete against 40 other young hairdressers from throughout the world.
Miss Bragg said she enjoyed working in the hairdressing industry and the win was a confidence booster.
"It makes you want to keep improving because you're constantly learning. Fashion changes constantly. You've got to keep up with it."
To take home the Sydney title, Miss Bragg had to create a look based on her own interpretation of this year's competition theme - beautify - which was then photographed for judging.
In Los Angeles, Miss Bragg would have to recreate her winning look for live judging, but said she was looking forward to the experience.
"I can't wait to get over there."
She said the trip to the Sydney awards last weekend, when she was accompanied by all her colleagues, was her first overseas trip so she was excited about travelling again.
Raw Blonde Dzine owner Sharron Sutherland said the team was proud of Miss Bragg's achievement.
She was the salon's second winner, after Rochelle Finlay won the creative colourist award in 2011, Ms Sutherland said.
The Goldwell Color Zoom Global Event runs in Los Angeles from October 5 to 8.
