Stars support Clyde food festival
A star-studded lineup including comedian Dai Henwood, former news presenter John Hawkesbury and celebrity chef Nici Wickes have signed on to take part in a new food festival at Clyde.
The festival, dubbed Cuisine@Clyde, will be held during four days during Labour Weekend by the Clyde on Sunday group.
Group member and Olivers owner David Ritchie said the area was well-known for its wine but the festival was being held to promote the food produced in the area.
''For the area food is really important. Central Otago has really distinctive food and produce which should be showcased,'' he said.
Henwood, who was a team captain on the television programme 7 Days, will be on hand to host a comedy barbecue competition which will include eight teams cooking off against each other with barbecue style food.
''We thought it (barbecue cooking) was something typical for the area in summer,'' Mr Ritchie said.
Other events being held were cooking demonstrations and master classes by celebrity chefs Nici Wickes, Fleur Sullivan, and Michael Coughlin.
John Hawkesbury will also be a guest at the Alexandra Wine Basin's new vintage wine release being held on Olivers' front lawn and will host a wine match dinner with a menu created by Wickes.
