Big, sexy power at Detroit Auto Show

Officially Nissan calls it a styling exercise but the Sport Sedan concept unveiled at the 2014 Detroit motor show is a strong hint at the next generation Maxima.

Nissan says the striking new styling – which includes aggressive headlights and a dramatically sloping roofline – will influence the next generation of sedans and points to how the next-gen Altima could look in 2016.

"Nissan's design language is our brand promise – Innovation and Excitement for Everyone – rendered in metal," said Nissan chief creative officer Shiro Nakamura.

"We are continually pushing the envelope, as the Sport Sedan Concept shows. It is a car that is more emotional, more exciting and that provides a strong hint of the design direction we are taking."

Under the stylish new body the Sport Sedan doesn't live up to its name. The 224kW 3.5-litre V6 engine is mated to a CVT that drives the front wheels.
