In a first for Invercargill, popular fashion designer Jane Sutherland will launch her winter collection in the city tonight.

Sutherland, originally from Invercargill, said the launch was a great way to acknowledge the support of her loyal southern clients and to showcase her creative talents in her old home town.

''Sans Peur,'' which means ''without fear,'' is the motto of the Sutherland clan and has been chosen as the name for her 2014 winter collection.

''The collection has drawn on rich colours from the Scottish highlands and the Sutherland tartan.''

Top quality wools, leather and sheer fabrics are combined with handcrafted metalwork to create unique individual garments, she said.

Invercargill fashion fans will enjoy the first look at the collection, which will then be shown at Dunedin's ID fashion week early next month.

Happening at Venom hair salon, the event will also showcase Auckland designer Kylee Davis's winter collection.

''Kylee specialises in quality New Zealand knits for creative and confident women.''

Both hers and Sutherland's pieces will also be for sale on the night.

Invercargill women's designer shoe store Dakota Vamp, will be there with the latest in winter boots and shoes and Venom hair designer Adrian Barclay will outline new winter hairstyles and cosmetics.

''It will be a wonderful evening to enjoy the latest in fashion, footwear, hair and makeup,'' Sutherland said.

Doors open at Venom at 6pm.
