British magazine Autocar has it from insiders at Jaguar that the car maker's next thrust will be towards a 3-Series BMW chaser with several body types including a sporting hatchback.

Jaguar is known to prefer the idea of a rear-drive-based car, rather than the previous front-drive, AWD option X-Type's platform.

We would expect it to use a shortened XF platform with much use of light alloys.
