McLaren has shone more light on what is expected to be a 1000 horsepower hypercar, the P12.

The company has this morning (NZ time) released a video showing trails of light travelling over a seemingly invisible form with the airflow creating a dynamic shape and dramatic visual effects.

McLaren says the lightshow provides a glimpse of what will be unveiled at the company's press conference timed at around 4.45am on September 28 (NZ time).

Billed as the spiritual successor to the famed McLaren F1, the P12 - or whatever it's ultimately called - is expected to use a carbon fibre monocoque, equipped with titanium and magnesium hardware for further weight reduction, while getting its power from a hybrid system built around a hot version of the 3.8-litre twin-turbo V-8 also used in the MP4-12C.
