James Bond star Daniel Craig has topped a Valentines Day poll of women about who they would like their motor mechanic to be.

The online British poll of 1600 females found that women clearly believe the 007 star to be more technically competent to deal with car servicing than football star David Beckham, who came in second.

Women were asked: "Much to your surprise your local mechanic has been replaced on Valentines Day by a famous person. Which celebrity would you like to fix your car?"

Craig polled 51 per cent with Beckham on 28 per cent, while ex-Beatle Paul McCartney had 12 per cent, Simon Cowell 9 and Justin Bieber 1.

Meanwhile, a poll aimed only a male motorists suggests that the time of roadside chivalry may be dead.

Men were asked: "If you saw that the woman trying to change her tyre was one of the following, would it make you stop?"

Some 49 per cent said they would not stop while 18 per cent said they would stop for Joanna Lumley, 12 for Cheryl Cole, 9 for Jessic Ennis, 8 for Keira Knightley and 3 for Adele.
