Holden has taken the wraps off its new VF Commodore Ute and VF Calais V Sportwagon, but if you saw either from the rear you'd be forgiven for assuming they were the previous model.

The VF SS-V Ute boasts identical bonnet, bumper, grille and wheels to the sedan version unveiled last week, but the rear end retains the same tail-lights and bumper as the VE generation model.

The VF Calais V Sportwagon also looks identical to a VE model from the back, including the same tail-lights and the same bumper bar (although it has a different plastic diffuser section). The Sportwagon has seen the same comprehensive nose job including a new look bumper, headlights, bonnet and grille as seen on the original VF sedan model that was unveiled nine days ago.

As already reported, the new VF Commodore is not as new as the company would have you believe, and this is particularly clear with the Ute and Sportwagon, which share many more common parts with the VE model.

Don't expect any changes under the bonnet, either. Holden is expected to retain the same engine lineup, which consists of a 3.0-litre and 3.6-litre V6, as well as a 6.0-litre V8 for SS models, albeit with some tweaks for refinement and economy.

The interior, however, will see plenty of new finishes and technologies, and an entirely new look.

The VF Commodore will be the most advanced car ever built in Australia, with every model to offer self-parking (which will park the car in a parallel or nose-to-kerb spot for the driver), and all models will come with a reversing camera.
