Fashion guru heads home
The Southland Times
Q: Help me Jackie, I am hiding my spare tyre by wearing black. How can I wear other colours and still hide my waist?
A: Fashion is definitely having a waist moment, which is really difficult if that is your problem area. Go for cross-over tops with a bit of ruching at the side, longer tunic-style tops are everywhere and a dress works really well to hide a tummy. As far as the ``hiding in black'' thing goes, I'd break out slowly by trying shades of a deeper colour perhaps your next purchase should be grey or chocolate, both will team nicely with your existing black.

Jackie O'Fee is New Zealand's own style doctor and fashion guru. She came home to give Gore a makeover. Craig Lawson reports.
New Zealand's style doctor Jackie O'Fee, 42, grew up in Gore and hit the limelight when she was chosen to present TV3's first makeover show Does My Bum Look Big.
She has a regular spot on the television breakfast show Sunrise and her style advice is called upon by many fashion and lifestyle publications.
She made her first hometown public appearance at a fundraiser show is called Does My Bum Look Big at the Calvin Church in Gore last week.
O'Fee said she was excited but a little nervous about returning to her home town.
"It will be a bit surreal going back to Gore where I don't think I was particularly stylish as a teenager and be talking about how to dress," she said before the event.
Her mother and sister were in the audience and it was be the first time they had seen her perform live.
The show featured live makeovers with lots of tips and fashion advice for women but "no one will be made to show their knickers like on Trinny & Susannah".
O'Fee has become a leading image consultant since starting her Auckland-based business Signature Style in 2001.
To some people she has a dream job – imagine shopping all day and spending other people's money. But it is her style direction that has become highly sought after around the country.
She advises both sexes on what to wear and has found some interesting differences.
"Men hate to throw things out far more than women do, but men will blow their budgets far more than women," she says.
Her advice to women is to always use a full-length mirror so they can get an overall picture of what they are wearing.
"And to be honest about how you look in the mirror. Don't hold in that tummy," she says.
