Trend report: Black and white
"It's all pastel baby"...or so we thought.
Just as you're getting used to squeezing yourself into those skinny lavender jeans, a new trend has come along and booted pastel back into the play pen.
It's graphic, classic and all grown up. It's black and white.
While Louis Vuitton was flouncing its candy coloured shades down the runway, Emporio Armani, Balmain and Altuzarra took us back to basics with the contrasting shades.
Far from boring, the classic black and white combo plays on ideas of light and dark, and of negative and positive space.
It's a great combo for changing the body shape and fooling the eye into seeing a defined waist, a curvier silhouette, or a longer leaner frame.
At Altuzarra the black and white combos had a strong sport-inspired mood, with high performance mesh, wind proofing fabrics and outdoorsy hardware.
Balmain looked to a relaxed silhouette for its monochromatic look: loose and comfy trousers, slouchy T-shirts and jackets with matador embellishments added a touch of glamour. Alexa Chung is a fan of the little B&W dress, also recently seen at Emporio Armani.
This trend has been around since Coco Chanel's heyday, so don't fret if pastel isn't your colour - black and white isn't likely to go away any time soon.
