I am taking my beautiful 20-year-old daughter shopping for a few new staple pieces in her wardrobe. She is really healthy, but has a bigger figure and most often hides behind the same pair of jeans and hooded sweatshirt. What do you suggest as some staple pieces for her wardrobe?

Thanks, Loretta

Hi Loretta,

The definition of a wardrobe staple is different for everyone. As your daughter sounds like a jeans and T-shirt sort of girl, try to warm her slowly into other items without making her feel too uncomfortable. Get her to expand her trouser options - maybe a pair of great fitting black trousers, or some chinos for summer that she can turn up at the ankle. Try Glassons, Marcs and Country Road.

A couple of great cotton T-shirts and a blouse or two are always great to have in the wardrobe. You can pick plain T-shirts up at a great price from places like Cotton On. Country Road, Glassons and Superette all have a great range of blouses in fabulous prints and colours. Look for loose-fitting styles that are longer in length, so she can pair them with skinny trousers.

A simple black blazer is another fail-safe item to have in her wardrobe, and she'll wear it for years and years. She can team it with a T-shirt, jeans and canvas sneakers for a casual look, or dress it up with a blouse for an evening out.

Get her a couple of pieces of jewellery from somewhere like Diva to glam up her outfits. A little bit less staple but still fun, a leather jacket and a simple summer tunic would make a happy addition.
