A woman miraculously escaped injury after hitting a large rock on the road in the Lindis Pass, flipping her car down a bank.
Sergeant Simon Paget, of Cromwell, said a 26-year-old woman from Rangiora was driving south on State Highway 8 about 4.45pm on Wednesday when she hit the rock, which had come down after the recent rain. "She lost control of her ute and has crossed the centre line and rolled her car down a bank into a tree."
A driver ahead of the woman had managed to avoid the rock, which was about the size of a small rubbish bin, Paget said. "She was very lucky not to be injured." He said drivers should drive to the conditions.
