Battle with breast cancer inspires survivor
When Colac Bay woman Lana Winders was asked to be a guest speaker at a breast cancer awareness fundraiser, she didn't hesitate in saying yes.
After going through her own breast cancer journey, the SBS Invercargill corporate performance general manager was eager to help.
"I've been looking for some way to give back for some time, and this is one of the ways I can," she said.
Winders was diagnosed with low-grade breast cancer in January 2013, and had since endured three surgeries, a double mastectomy, reconstruction and a couple of bouts of radiotherapy.
"The more open I am about my story the more open I hope others will be to getting a mammogram or more open to self-examination.
Winders, as well as her husband Jeremy, will speak at the Pink Ribbon High Tea at the Kelvin Hotel on Sunday from 2pm.
The AWS Legal Pink Ribbon Breakfast is on this Friday from 7.30am to 9am at Stadium Southland and about 100 Southland businesswomen have been invited.
