Youth bands compete for rock quest top spot

Southern youth bands are set to rock the Civic Theatre in Inver cargill tonight, with 10 groups competing for the top spot in the Smokefreerockquest regional finals.

Competitors are from James Hargest College, Southland Girls' High School, Verdon College, St Peter's College and Gore High School.

The top two bands on the night must next submit video footage for selection as national finalists.

The finals are to be held in Auckland in September.

Other awards up for grabs tonight include the People's Choice, which audience members vote for by text message, the MAINZ musicianship award, Smokefree award for women's musicianship, Lowdown best song and the APRA lyrics award.

Smokefreerockquest Southland final at the Civic Theatre at 7pm tonight. Tickets $20 on the door or from Ticket Direct.
