A person is trapped in a vehicle following a two-car crash in Southland tonight.

Police southern communications inspector Peter Hegarty said police were called to the incident at the intersection of Flora Rd East and the Winton-Lorneville Highway at about 5.40pm.

An ambulance southern communications spokeswoman confirmed two patients were taken to Southland Hospital.

One person was cut from a vehicle by the fire service and had suffered a head injury.

The other person suffered a knee injury, she said.
