A 19-year-old man hit by a vehicle on the Waimea Highway near Gore on Saturday night remains in a critical condition.
Senior Sergeant Craig Brown said the man was in the intensive care unit at Dunedin Hospital.
He suffered serious injuries after being struck by a vehicle and was flown by helicopter to Dunedin Hospital.
Constable Clint Wright, of Gore, said police were still investigating the cause of the incident.
