A teen remained in a serious condition in the intensive care unit of Dunedin Hospital yesterday after being hit by a vehicle about 6km north of Gore on Saturday night.

Brodie Carroll, 19, was flown to hospital after the accident on State Highway 94, near the intersection with Monaghan Rd, about 8.40pm.

Sergeant Clint Wright, of Gore, said Carroll was on the road when he was struck by another vehicle.

The vehicle Carroll had been in had pulled over to the side of the road before the accident.

"His associates were off to the side of the road and unfortunately Carroll was on the road and subsequently got struck by a Toyota Hilux," Wright said.

The Hilux driver was helping police with their investigations, Wright said.

Family and friends had been stunned by the accident.

The accident followed a crash near Riversdale on April 25 in which three people were killed.

Friends Christopher Simpson, 39, Matthew McKee, 39, and Ewan Christie, 59, died when their Toyota Hilux left the Riversdale-Waikaia Rd and hit a bridge just before midnight.
