The in-patient ward at the hospital in Balclutha is closed to new admissions for at least 48 hours following the outbreak of another gastro bug.
It was closed earlier this month when a bug, later confirmed as norovirus, struck forcing eight nurses off work at one point.
Clutha Health First chief executive Ray Anton said he was waiting for test results to confirm the situation.
Staff believe somebody carrying a virus had been admitted to the ward. Access to patients was restricted to essential visits from immediate family.
The maternity and other departments were unaffected.
