Stock truck crash kills cattle and blocks road
Cattle are being shot at the scene of a crash this morning, after a stock truck overturned its crate.
Southern police communications spokesman Murray Hurst said the truck crash happened about 7.30am and blocked Fruitlands- Roxburgh Rd.
The truck driver was not injured in the crash, but many of the cattle he was transporting had been killed or badly injured in the crash, he said.
Emergency services responded to the incident and cleared the road so traffic could pass, he said.
A nearby farmer was now at the scene shooting the injured cows, Hurst said.
