Stadium campaign gets boost from MLT
All of Southland should be proud of the new Stadium Southland, the Mataura Licensing Trust says.
The licensing trust has donated $10,000 to the Rattle the Tin fundraising campaign to pay off the new stadium.
MLT general manager John Wyeth said the trust, like most people in Southland, saw the benefit of helping out the campaign.
"There's an awful lot of use from people in the MLT area," he said.
The MLT considered the new stadium as a great asset for Southland and decided to help out because it would benefit the people in its area, he said.
Wyeth had been to the new stadium and loved the new design.
"I was in awe of the old stadium and I think this new one is very fantastic," he said.
Southlanders are being asked to help make the stadium debt-free.
The Stadium Trust has calculated that it still needs $5 million "to get across the line" and is asking businesses and individuals from throughout the region to take part in its Rattle the Tin fundraising campaign.
The trust has accepted Prime Minister John Key's challenge that if "local tins were rattled", the Government would be prepared to contribute.
